CompTIA Offers Mini-Boot Camp on Latest Cybersecurity Certification

May 22, 2017

Session scheduled for June 15 in conjunction with Defensive Cyber Operations Symposium 2017

Downers Grove, Ill. – A mini-boot camp on CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CSA+), the newest certification from CompTIA, the world’s leading technology association, will be offered next month at the AFCEA International Defensive Cyber Operations Symposium in Baltimore.

The comprehensive, five-hour program is set for Thursday, June 15 (8 a.m. until 1 p.m.) at the Baltimore Convention Center. The mini-boot camp is free for active military personnel and government employees. Tuition is $270 for AFCEA members and $295 for non-members. Registration is required and includes a complimentary same-day DCOS exhibit hall pass (up to $250 value).

Introduced earlier this year, the CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst certification brings behavioral and network analytics to the forefront of assessing cyber threats. Leading cybersecurity experts developed and maintain the certification course and exam, which was created based on a combination of industry-wide feedback and contributions from subject matter experts.

“As attackers have learned to evade traditional signature-based solutions such as firewalls, an analytics-based approach within the IT security industry is increasingly important for most organizations,” said James Stanger, senior director, products, at CompTIA. “The behavioral analytics skills covered by CSA+ identify and combat malware and advanced persistent threats, resulting in enhanced threat visibility across a broad attack surface."

CompTIA CSA+ is globally recognized and ISO/ANSI 17024 accredited. U.S. Department of Defense approval to meet directive 8140/8570.01-M requirements is in the works. The Navy Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (DON COOL) program has adopted CSA+.

Stanger;  Patrick Lane, CompTIA’s director of products and manager of the CSA+ certification; Stephen Schneiter, program manager for the CompTIA Instructor Network; and others will lead the mini-boot camp at the Defensive Cyber Operations Symposium.

Session topics will include threat management, data analytics, intrusion detection and response, and practical security baselining.

“We’ll also discuss the ‘business’ of security, with insights on how cybersecurity professionals can work with executives, managers and employees to truly alter behavior and improve an organization’s security posture,” Stanger said.

By attending the session, cybersecurity professionals can earn CompTIA and GIAC continuing education credits to fulfill requirements for certification maintenance. Registrants and attendees will also have the chance to win a CSA+ exam voucher valued at $320.
