Cloud and SaaS computing are all the rage these days, with a steady stream of articles, forums and vendors discussing the pros and cons of this thriving software application delivery model. The basics are pretty well understood, but there are many questions around true business opportunities and challenges for solution providers and vendors. Cloud computing is more than accessing a program through the internet; it requires a different support structure than the typical software application. Development of SaaS also necessitates an understanding of the underlying infrastructure, such as a proficiency of APIs (application programming interfaces) to scale integrations and deployment.

For those that want a deeper understanding of how SaaS and cloud computing can positively (or negatively) impact their sales, CompTIA is hosting a Cloud Computing Workshop June 29th and 30th   at the Cloud World Forum in the Olympia Conference Centre, London, UK. The schedule includes keynote presentations by executives of Microsoft and Salesforce.com , with a focus on the challenges and threats of cloud computing as well as success stories from companies that have adopted the technology. The workshop also includes interactive panel discussions on vital topics, such as a need for standards in cloud and best practices on its adoption.

CompTIA will discuss its support programs for members adopting and developing cloud computing applications, as well as convene a meeting of its new Cloud/SaaS Community. This group is made up of cloud computing professionals collaborating on initiatives intended to advance the SaaS opportunities and industry education on the subject. Expect to see a thorough discussion around setting industry standards, exchanging best practices and identifying need for industry accreditation. Networking among the professionals in attendance is encouraged with time built into the agenda. CompTIA encourages those with an interest in the future of Cloud/SaaS to attend, but there will be a limit of 25 so please reserve a spot as soon as possible.

The Cloud/SaaS Community is one of seven CompTIA Communities, each focused on a particular technology or market segment development.  These building blocks of the association will be central to the programs, tools and research created to meet the rapidly expanding needs of its members. The Communities continue to recruit new voices and encourage interested parties to contact them for meeting dates and details.

The workshop will be held in the main exhibition area and attendance is free for all Cloud World Forum participants (you do not have to be a CompTIA member to attend). Due to the limited number of places available, they are recommending early registration. CompTIA negotiated a 25% discount on registration to the Cloud World Forum as well, so contact Elzbieta Godlewska at +48 660 705 266 or egodlewska@comptia.org for the promotional code.

We hope you’ll join us there and explore all the opportunities in the “Cloud!”
