Twin Bills Spotlight Advances in Emerging Tech

Over the past few weeks, CompTIA has been asked to provide comments on two bills that focus on emerging tech.

The Senators Shaheen (NH) and Vitter (LA) co-sponsored Small Business Broadband and Emerging Technology Enhancement Act of 2015 seeks to better assist small business customers in accessing broadband technology.  CompTIA believes that both the entrepreneurial and small business communities, frequent drivers of innovation, will benefit immensely from improved access to broadband technologies.  Furthermore, we fully support the development of IT training programs that will empower the small business ecosystem.

Representative Derek Kilmer (WA-6) will shortly be introducing a bill that focuses on expanding the use of open source data by the Federal Government.  Highlights of the bill include calling for each agency to establish a Chief Data Officer as well as establishing a Chief Data Officers Council made up of agency CDOs and representatives from the White House (CDO, CIO, and Chief Data Scientists).
