On September 26th, The House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing on “Building a 21st Century Infrastructure for America: Water Stakeholders’ Perspectives”. The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), the Smart Cities Council, and the Smart Waters Network Forum (SWAN) North America Alliance submitted a statement for the record. Our joint statement focused on our joint “Water Readiness Guide: Policy Recommendations for a More Resilient Water Future”.
The Guide highlights five main recommendation areas:
- Compliance requirements should be incentive based
- Public private partnerships should be encouraged
- Managers and regulators must work to achieve a balance in cost-based rate structures
- Demonstration and deployment of new technology applications and solutions should be encouraged and incentivized
- Use of technology-driven decision making is encouraged to support infrastructure investment proposals
