CompTIA's member community, the State & Local Government and Education Council(SLED), has elected to support Sacramento State University’s School of Public Affairs and the Orlando County (FL) Library System’s Melrose Center with philanthropic dollars. Both organizations will receive $5,000.

SLED is a consortium of technology-company executives who share a common mission to be a voice for the IT industry serving state and local government and education markets. Members, guided by an executive council, collaborate with CompTIA staff, state government affairs advocates and other resources to drive member-led initiatives that advance the interests of the IT industry in those markets.

The donation to Sacramento State University will help support scholarships for students who are attending its new Capital School of Public Affairs and studying government and technology.

“The SLED Council strives to be the connector between the tech industry and government, so we picked charitable causes that also serve that purpose,” said Jennifer Axt, Dell EMC General Manager, Sales, Partners and Programs, Americas State & Local Government and Education and chair for the SLED Council. “The council funded a scholarship for a student we fully expect to see working in the government and technology industry in the future and who can bring together policy, politics and technology to help train our future workforce.”

The SLED Council also donated $5,000 to the Orange County Library System in Orlando, FL. The system’s stated mission is to connect its changing community to the evolving world of ideas, information and technology. Through continuous innovation, the Orange County Library System seeks to create a well-informed, well-connected community, making Orange County a great place to live, learn, work and play. Its Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation & Creativity is an example of the library's efforts to stay current within its ever-changing world.

“The SLED Council is proud to support the Melrose Center for innovation, technology and collaboration,” Axt said. “The center serves as a hub for the public sector and the citizens of Orlando in order to get the community trained, excited about and interested in technology.”

Contributions made by the SLED Council are part of an annual effort at CompTIA and its philanthropic arm, the Creating IT Futures Foundation, to support local communities through service, drawing positive attention to charities and encouraging individual good works.
