Time Travel (and Other Business Management Techniques)

Summer blockbuster movies bring together two of my favorite things: the vacation season and great cinema. One reason I love this movie genre is the escape it provides from the everyday routine and all its challenges. Time travel is a frequent occurence in blockbuster movies and it's also a great illustration of a business tool we'd all love to have avaialble. Whether the cinematic feature is Terminator IX, or classics like Star Trek or Back to the Future, the hero gets out of a sticky situation by simply taking a trip back in time. While most of us would love access to a “flux capacitor-equipped Delorean” so we could go back and fix our mistakes and improve our lives; it’s still (unfortunately) an opportunity that only occurs in the movies.

We know that running an IT business doesn’t leave much spare time to do all the things you think are important. It takes time to stay current on the latest technologies and business trends, but time is one commodity that’s in short supply for those in charge of  managing the company. While CompTIA can’t provide you with the keys to a time machine (at least for now), we can offer members the next best thing: resources to help you use your time wisely.

How much time do you spend at customer sites performing critical upgrades or lengthy reboots? When everything is proceeding as planned, but you have idle time while you wait for the procedures to run their course, what do you do with that time? Would you rather read a book, catch up on Facebook or invest that time on educational studies? CompTIA’s extensive portfolio of instructional resources can help turn any downtime into productive personal development session.

Just log on to the CompTIA Member Resource Center and access the Archived Webinars or Videos On Demand and select from a large variety of business and technology sessions. These recordings cover topics that can help your team stay on top of the latest regulatory changes, learn new best practices and understand the customer benefits of new technologies. You can access these educational videos whenever you have the time; with the ability to stop and restart the sessions as needed. With two 30-minute breaks, you can learn how to communicate the value of security to your staff and customers, or learn more about business planning. Or you can sit through the entire session in about an hour. You aren’t locked into a set schedule or curriculum, but each session is designed for the IT channel, by the IT channel.

While there’s not a time machine benefit in the CompTIA Member Resource Center just yet, we will continue to add to the on-demand video and archived webinar library. Let us know about the topics that interest you and can help your business.
