What if protecting your business’s confidential data and information was as easy as hiring a bodyguard? Who would you hire? What questions would you ask your candidates to be sure that this person has your company’s best interests at heart and the ethical values to back them up? Safeguarding private information is a matter that cannot be taken lightly in this digital age. That’s why CompTIA created the CompTIA Security Trustmark to help businesses identify solution providers that consistently follow security best practices. Doing business with a Security Trustmark holder ensures you’ve hired a competent bodyguard.

Drayton Mayers, owner of TeamLogic IT in Memphis, TN, is one of those competent bodyguards. TeamLogic IT has been a Security Trustmark holder for nearly two years and is proud to be the first and only Trustmark recipient not only in the Memphis area, but in the tri-state region of Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi.

According to Mayers, TeamLogic IT set out to acquire the Security Trustmark in order to practice what it preaches. “We must first understand and employ security best practices at our own company and then, armed with this understanding, deploy said practices at client sites,” he said. Mayers credits the Security Trustmark process with the primary benefit of fully understanding compliance gaps and problem areas in security policies, processes and planning. “We’re able to use this understanding to enhance the security profile of our clients,” he said.

The CompTIA Security Trustmark is a vendor-neutral, business-level credential developed with the support of technology companies at the forefront of the IT security industry. The framework has been agreed upon by key vendors, solution providers and end-users in the IT industry.

To earn the Security Trustmark, an organization must complete a comprehensive review of its security policies and the security control survey – consisting of 121 questions. The company must achieve a passing score based on their responses. CompTIA performs the review of this application to confirm accurate completion, but does not provide qualitative feedback for areas of improvement.

“It has always been our priority to provide the highest level of security to our clients,” Mayers said. “Taking this step to verify that commitment is a natural extension of our drive to be the best and most reputable IT services provider in this region.”

In addition to boosting the reputation of Mayer’s company within the technology community, Mayers believes earning the Trustmark has enhanced TeamLogic IT’s abilities as well, citing the significance of written information security policy (WISPs). “The importance of a WISP is often ignored or underestimated and it shouldn’t be,” he says. “This is the foundation of a company’s best practice and it is a must in today’s compliance-rich world.”

Earning the CompTIA Security Trustmark also means increased marketability. Customers know that businesses with the Security Trustmark will keep their information safe by following best practices in personnel security, security training and infrastructure. TeamLogic IT promotes its Trustmark status in every discovery meeting, in customer proposals and on its website.

An IT solution provider’s business is based on trust and best practices. TeamLogic IT strives to take the worry out of technology by providing the knowledge and skills to keep operations humming along. The CompTIA Security Trustmark designates companies that do just that – and who better to have in your corner when it comes to shielding your information?
