The current transition of doctors’ offices and hospitals from paper to the digital realm is a key challenge for our industry, but it’s also an opportunity.   How can IT professionals help physicians enter the digital age safely and with the least amount of disruption?

CompTIA President and CEO Todd Thibodeaux discussed healthcare IT in a recent opinion-editorial on the San Antonio Express-News website, pointing out that without reliable, knowledgeable and entrepreneurial small IT companies as partners, today’s doctors may find themselves on an uncharted path to adopting healthcare IT solutions.

Todd noted that there is still more to be done, advocating a program that would provide small and midsize tech companies direct access to the capital they need:

“Congress is considering legislation that would create a $30 billion government fund to help community banks increase lending to small businesses.  CompTIA and many small businesses across the country support this effort – but we have another suggestion:  designate a portion of that money to create a direct lending program enabling the government to make loans to small businesses that provide health IT services and systems to eligible medical professionals.”
