CompTIA’s IT Business Growth Professionals Community (ITBGP) debuted a business assessment tool designed to help small- to medium-sized businesses evaluate strengths and weaknesses within their company.

The sole purpose of the business assessment tool is to allow individual companies to candidly assess their current position in a variety of business disciplines, to define which areas would benefit from improvement and determine which areas hold the highest priority for the company to improve upon.

“The amount of resources located in the CompTIA member resource center can seem daunting at times,” said Kirk Smallwood, VP of strategic alliances, CompTIA. “We wanted to develop a tool that would help solution provider members navigate through these resources in order to find which ones would be most beneficial to their company. Being that the majority of CompTIA’s members are small- to medium-sized entrepreneurs who need to figure out which areas of business are most important to them and how they are doing in those areas, we saw the creation of this tool as necessary to help them succeed.”

Members who complete the Web-based business assessment tool will be steered toward CompTIA resources that will help them improve in the areas identified as needing more support. Members also will be directed to ITBGP participants consisting of coaches and consultants specializing in certain areas of business who will help them interpret assessment results.

Areas of business that are evaluated by the assessment tool include: organization and structure, human resources, customer relations, strategy and planning, and implementation. In total there are 10 areas of business that will be evaluated by members using the tool. By providing a capacity and priority rating for each area of business, users form an understanding of which areas are most important to running their company and how they are performing in those areas.

In the instructions page of the business assessment tool CompTIA advises that senior management complete the business assessment tool while working in conjunction with other employees in the company.

The business assessment tool reinforces the community’s commitment to providing technology-focused solution providers, vendors and distributors with industry and business knowledge that can help them address the challenges they face on their path to growth and success.
