At last the mighty task is done;
Resplendent in the western sun
The Bridge looms mountain high;
Its titan piers grip ocean floor,
Its great steel arms link shore with shore,
Its towers pierce the sky.

These words were penned in 1937 upon completion of the Golden Gate Bridge by chief engineer Joseph Straus. The poem captures both the vision and grandeur of this modern marvel; considered one of the finest civil engineering achievements of the 20th century. What is most remarkable about the bridge is the scale of human effort required to complete it. From the imaginative architects to skilled riveters, the project demanded the coordination of thousands of able workers—over a span of four years—to realize Straus’s dream of linking San Francisco with Marin County. The bridge stands today as a testament to what mankind can accomplish through collaboration.

Collaboration is no less important now than it was in the 1930s. In an industry as diverse and complex as IT, businesses cannot be all things to all people. To accomplish great things, an organization must continually reach beyond its comfort zone and its own four-walls. From a solution provider bidding on an out of state contract in combination with a local equipment recycler to a cloud computing aggregator partnering with an IT security expert, innovation and channel growth is dependent on businesses working together.
